Terms of use

Last updated October 2026

These terms cover your use of korainstrument.com. They are written to be read, not to be survived.

1 · Who you are dealing with

This website is published by the Cissokho Kunda, a Mandinka Diali family of Bignona, in the Casamance, Senegal. Where these terms say we or us, that is who is meant. Contact: info@korainstrument.com.

Which means: you are dealing with a family, and the people who answer you are members of it.

2 · What this website is

It exists to tell you about the kora, about the family who build and play it, and about what we offer — instruments and merchandise, the Kora Camp in Casamance, and in time the Kora Masterclass. Some of that is available now and some is not. Where something is not yet open, the page says so plainly.

Nothing here is a promise that a particular item, date or price will stay available. Prices and dates are confirmed to you directly before you pay anything.

3 · Orders for goods

When the shop is open, placing an order is an offer to buy. The contract is formed when we send an order confirmation, not when payment is taken. If something is mispriced or unavailable we will tell you and refund in full rather than quietly substitute.

Apparel and accessories are made to order. Instruments are made by hand and each one differs a little from the next; that is the nature of the object, not a fault.

Faulty, damaged or misprinted. If an item arrives damaged, defective or printed wrongly, tell us within 30 days of delivery and we will replace it or refund it. You will not normally need to send it back. A photograph is usually all we ask for.

Change of mind and sizing. Apparel and accessories are printed for you after you order, so we cannot restock a returned item and we do not offer change-of-mind or wrong-size returns as a matter of course. Please use the size guide before ordering, and write to us if you are unsure — we would far rather answer a sizing question first than have you receive something that does not fit. If something has gone wrong we will look at it; we are a family, not a returns department.

Instruments are assessed individually — write to us before sending anything back. Where you have a statutory right to cancel, nothing here removes it.

4 · Kora Camp

A place at the camp begins with a conversation, not a checkout. We confirm the dates, what is included and the price before any money moves. Where a deposit is taken it is stated as refundable or not at the time you are asked for it, never afterwards. Travel to Senegal, insurance, visas and vaccinations are yours to arrange.

5 · Using the site

Read it, share it, link to it. Do not attempt to break it, scrape it wholesale, or pass our work off as your own. What you may and may not do with the music and the artwork is set out on the Copyright and Licensing pages.

6 · Availability

We do not promise the site is always up. It is a family running a website, not a utility. If something breaks we fix it as soon as we reasonably can.

7 · Changes

These terms can change. The date at the top is the version you are reading. A change never applies backwards to an order already placed.

8 · Law

These terms are governed by the law of Senegal. Nothing here removes rights you hold under the law of the country you live in, and if a clause here conflicts with one of those rights, that right wins.

This page is available in English only. Where a translation of any other part of this site differs from the English, the English version governs.
